Megeve can be found in the Haute-Savoie region of the French Alps. The area is now one of “the most picturesque and smartest resorts in the world”. It is set in a high open sunny valley with Mont Blanc as the backdrop. The village dates back to the 13th Century and with its narrow cobbled streets and traffic-free centre it is the perfect Savoyard town.
The height at the top of Megeve is 2350m and goes down to 850m. Although the town itself only stands at 1100m, snow coverage has always been sufficient but the 170 snow cannons offer a good backup! Within half an hour’s drive you can be in Chamonix for some of the most challenging ski-ing in the world.
The total ski area consists of the five linked resorts of Megeve, Combloux, Le Bettex, St. Gervais, and St Nicolas-de-Veroce. It is also connected to the skiing above Les Houches via St Gervais and the Tramway du Mont Blanc (the return back is off-piste). This year Megeve is now also linked to Les Contamines. There are different types of ski-pass available depending on how much you want to ski. The Evasion Mont Blanc Ski Pass covers the above mentioned areas and the Skipass Mont Blanc covers Chamonix and other resorts in the Chamonix Valley.

With 300km of pistes – 23 green runs, 41 blue runs, 54 red runs and 17 black runs, Megeve is one of the largest and most beautiful ski resorts in Europe, although it is still rarely heard about in the UK. The skiing is good for beginners and intermediates, with tree-lined runs and two mountains to ski – Rochebrune and Mont d’Arbois. For the more advanced skiers among you there is plenty of off-piste on offer. With over 80 lifts and no T-bars – access around the resort is superb.
For the first three days of your holiday one of the chalet hosts will be available to ski with you and show you around the resort. No more stopping and looking at piste maps or getting lost and not returning in time for tea! Getting lost in a pub is not an excuse!

For those who wish to Snowboard there is also plenty to offer. There is the Mont Joux snow-park, the boarder-cross at Rochebrune and the wide range of general pistes.
Cross country skiers will find 75km of piste available, with varied and interesting routes and there are 50km of footpaths for snowshoeing.

There are plenty of shops and cafes, bars and restaurants as well as a casino, cinema, jazz club and a disco. For those who may not be skiing there is always something to keep you entertained - the sports centre, ice rink, covered tennis courts, saunas, heated swimming pools, gymnasium and climbing wall.
For those who want to be pampered there are plenty of beauty and slimming treatments available. There are weekend fitness programmes as well as beauty programs and slimming weeks all run by state-certified masseurs, physiotherapists and beauticians.

The range of ski lessons for children is extensive and there are also several kindergartens located conveniently close to the slopes that will look after children for either a half or a whole day. The Caboche takes children over 3 years old, and the crèche – Meg Loisirs -will take children from 1 year. If you would like a babysitter for an evening, one of your chalet hosts will be available to look after your children for a small extra charge.
